IRS Commissioner Calls 2021 “One Of The Nation’s Most Important Filing Seasons Ever”

IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig cited the pandemic and need to quick tax refunds as reasons why the 2021 tax season was going to be so important.

“Given the pandemic, this is one of the nation’s most important filing seasons ever,” Rettig said. “This start date will ensure that people get their needed tax refunds quickly while also making sure they receive any remaining stimulus payments they are eligible for as quickly as possible.”

The quote was in regards to a later than usual start date for American’s to file their taxes.

Last year, the IRS started accepting applications on January 27th.

This year, the IRS won’t start accepting until February 12th, 2021.

The IRS noted the major challenges it faced last year with the pandemic, ranging from staffing issues to temporarily closing down because of the virus.

They’re asking for patience this year so the can lineup and test new systems to ensure they can start processing and issuing returns immediately.

As we’ve noted, the quickest way to get a tax refund is to file electronically with direct deposit information, which the IRS again stressed for 2021.

Good luck with your refunds this year!
