What Can Cause a Delay In Your New Jersey Tax Refund
Expecting your refund but haven’t gotten it yet? Sometimes there may be delays due to issues at the DOR itself (ie. staffing problems). But many times there are things specific to your situation and return/refund that are causing the delay.
What could these things be that cause a delay in your New Jersey state tax refunds? Here is an overview of some of the most common issues…
- The New Jersey Department of Revenue may need to further verify some of the info you included on your return. In these cases, the DOR may ask you to provide them with additional information in order to complete their verification. This will often delay you getting your refund.
- Returns that are more complex, due to multiple tax forms, businesses, real estate holdings, etc. will take longer to review and could result in more time before you get your refund
- Any adjustments that need to be made to the return and/or errors in the calculations on the return
- Not opting to get your refund through direct deposit
- Sending in your return through the mail instead of filing it electronically
- Filing a return that is missing information (ie. an incomplete return)
So, bottom line for getting your refund quickly is to double (or triple) check your return for accuracy and file/get your refund electronically.
Should there be any delays with your New Jersey state tax refund, just call the hotline number we have provided above, or visit their website at https://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/individuals/
